Trump’s latest tantrum now targeting Gordie Howe bridge and Windsor jobs

WINDSOR — Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles and Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky are speaking out after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to block the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge:

“This is completely irresponsible,” said Stiles. “Donald Trump's latest tantrum is threatening billions of dollars' worth of trade and workers in both countries. This bridge is a joint project between Canada and the United States, and the President needs to respect the agreement.”

“Let’s be clear, a lot of what this President is saying just isn’t true,” said Gretzky. “Trump publicly supported this bridge back in 2017, and now he’s threatening to block it. Canadian and American workers built it together and Canada funded it upfront with a clear agreement in place for joint ownership and for the United States to pay their fair share.”

“People in Windsor and across Ontario are fed up with the chaos,” said Stiles.

“The facts are not complicated,” said Gretzky. “Canada paid to build this bridge. Trying to block the opening would hurt workers, businesses, and the economy on both sides of the border, full stop. It’s also disrespectful to the host communities and the hard working Canadian and American workers that built the bridge and surrounding infrastructure.”
