RAKOCEVIC: Scarborough riders stuck waiting for Ford government’s green light

QUEENS PARK — Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Public Transit Tom Rakocevic (Humber River—Black Creek) pressed the Ford Conservatives on the Scarborough Eglinton East LRT today, calling for a commitment to finally fund the vital project:

“Scarborough is the largest and fastest-growing region in Toronto,” said Rakocevic. “The people there are tired of the long bus rides it takes to get around. The Scarborough Eglinton East LRT would run from Kennedy Station to Malvern Town Centre, with 27 stops over 16 kilometres.

“It’s the City of Toronto’s number one transit priority, but the Ford government refuses to commit to it, leaving this critical line in limbo.

“People in Scarborough deserve reliable public transit. Their new subway line has an estimated opening date of the year after the Leafs win the Cup, and the last time it made the news was when the drill got stuck in the tunnel. Will the government commit to building this LRT for the people of Scarborough?”
