RAKOCEVIC: Metrolinx, Ford government fail Scarborough again

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP Shadow Public Transit Minister Tom Rakocevic (Humber River—Black Creek) blasted Metrolinx and the Ford government for covering up growing delays on Scarborough’s long-awaited subway extension, which has now been delayed until 2033 with no explanation as to why.

“Metrolinx and the Ford government are obsessed with secrecy,” said Rakocevic. “Why is this critical subway extension being delayed? Is it something minor? Something major? We don’t know, because Metrolinx refuse to explain themselves to the people of Scarborough, and the Ford government lets them get away with it.

“Metrolinx and the Ford Conservatives have failed Scarborough again. People have been stuck with a patchwork system of buses for nearly three years. This project was first announced in 2019, and now no one will tell them why they're waiting nearly 15 years for its completion.

“Metrolinx’s bloated executive roster keeps offering smoke screens instead of transparency. The Ford government needs to hold them accountable. The people of Scarborough deserve dependable public transit, and Ontarians deserve a full public inquiry to determine the extent to which this organization has lit their tax dollars on fire.”
