New Democrats call out Conservatives for moving to shut down committee for the summer

QUEEN’S PARK — NDP MPPs Wayne Gates (Niagara Falls) and Alexa Gilmour (Parkdale – High Park) released a joint statement after Ford’s Conservatives pushed for the committee to be adjourned once again:

“After adjourning the legislature for 21 weeks after sitting for less than a month, the Premier said that committees will still run throughout the summer,” said MPP Gates. “Now his Conservatives are moving to also adjourn committee for the summer.

“They are fighting tooth and nail to cancel committee hearings and avoid accountability. It is shameful that instead of doing the job Ontarians elected them to do, they are trying to start their summer vacations early."

“The governance of our province is only as strong as the members appointed to these boards and agencies,” said MPP Gilmour. “Many of the government appointees do not have the knowledge or experience to do the jobs that they’re appointed to.

“New Democrats spent the last session fighting to lower your bills, and put money back into your pockets, while Doug Ford spent it helping himself to private jets, luxury spas, and island airports. And while Ontarians deserve to have a government that works as hard as they do, the Ford government is closing up shop instead and refusing to do the work they promised to do this summer.”
