NDP MPP raises serious concerns about Ontario’s home care system failures

QUEEN’S PARK – NDP MPP Chandra Pasma (Ottawa West – Nepean) stood in the Legislature today to raise urgent concerns about the failure of Ontario’s home care system following the tragic death of Ottawa resident John Lacombe, who died alone after not receiving the care he had been approved for:

“The death of John Lacombe is a devastating example of a home care system under Ford and his government that is failing the very people it is meant to protect,” said MPP Pasma. “Despite clear warnings from his family, and repeated requests for in-person support; the system relied on phone calls they had been told he could not answer. His file was closed without anyone ever knocking on his door.

“This was not just a missed step; it was a complete breakdown of care and accountability under the supervision of the Minister of Health. No one should be left alone, unheard, and without support in their most vulnerable moments.

“Ontario must take immediate action to ensure no family ever experiences a preventable loss like this again.”
