MPP Vaugeois slams Ford government for inaction on Terrace Bay Mill as investment moves to Quebec

QUEEN’S PARK – NDP Shadow Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, with responsibility for WSIB and Injured Workers MPP Lise Vaugeois (Thunder Bay – Superior North) stood in the Legislature today to address this government’s neglect of Terrace Bay Mill:

“On June 24, the United Steelworkers and a respected industrial developer presented a detailed business plan to the Ministry of Forestry to purchase the Terrace Bay Mill, with options to continue producing pulp or convert the facility to biofuels. Ten months later, the government has yet to respond. That same company is now moving forward with a similar project in Quebec, while Ontario has failed to act.

“The people of Terrace Bay have been left behind, facing toxic waste and the loss of their local tax base. Can the government explain why a credible proposal that is now succeeding elsewhere was not taken seriously here at home?”
