GLOVER: Ford can’t be trusted with Toronto Islands

TORONTO — Ontario NDP MPP Chris Glover (Spadina—Fort York) isn’t buying the Ford government’s claims about their plans for Toronto Islands. Ford’s Minister claims that the province is not interested in seizing the islands, despite introducing a Bill that gives the province the power to do so:

“Doug Ford is no stranger to real estate scandals,” said Glover. "He makes shady backroom deals and keeps the public in the dark until it’s too late to stop him.

“The Greenbelt, Ontario Place, the Science Centre. Ford has repeatedly sold off public lands, so his friends and donors can make billions of dollars. The Premier has constantly betrayed our trust. Why should anyone believe that he won’t clearcut Hanlan’s Point, give Centreville to his friends, or carve out a portion of the Island for a private lakeside resort? We don’t know this government’s intentions, and we cannot trust them with this power.

“Ford spends more time at his Muskoka cottage than on Toronto’s waterfront, but for the people of Toronto, the downtown waterfront is our lake access. We cannot let him destroy it. We are going to fight back against the Premier’s latest real estate scam and protect our waterfront.”
