GILMOUR: Ford can go further to protect Ontario’s employment lands

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP MPP Alexa Gilmour (Parkdale—High Park) welcomes the Ford government’s move to protect the Ontario Food Terminal, but says more must be done to safeguard the city’s employment lands.

MPP Gilmour called on the Conservatives to protect the terminal and its surrounding employment lands during Question Period on April 2.

“Protecting the Ontario Food Terminal is a positive step,” said Gilmour. “But it’s crucial that we don’t stop here.

“While this move saves the terminal, three other employment lands are going before the Ontario Land Tribunal. The Conservatives must fulfill the City of Toronto’s request to approve Official Plan Amendment 804, and take this added step to safeguard these lands, and our jobs.

“Thousands of workers depend on these employment lands to provide for their families. This affects countless people. Doug Ford and his government must go all the way to protect these vital employment lands, and the people who are relying on them.”
