Ford Conservatives move to host late night session and rush through controversial FOI changes

QUEEN’S PARK – Leader of the Official Opposition, Marit Stiles, released this statement after the Ford Conservatives have moved to extend sitting hours into the late night to rush through the controversial changes to the province’s transparency and accountability rules:

“Just when you thought this government couldn’t get any worse, they’re now scheduling late night sittings to quietly change the rules, hoping to keep Ontarians in the dark,” said Stiles.

“These changes are about one thing: giving Doug Ford more power to hide their shady dealings from the public, the media and from anyone trying to get answers.

“Here’s the thing: the people of Ontario, our taxpayers, deserve to know how the government is spending their hard-earned money. The Premier’s latest shopping spree is proof that the people need to keep an eye on this government’s affairs.

“New Democrats will stay up for as long as it takes to stop this bill from being rammed through and fight to protect people’s right to transparency about the decisions that impact their lives.”
