QUEEN’S PARK – NDP MPP Chandra Pasma (Ottawa West–Nepean) brought forward Bill 23, the Protecting Seniors’ Rights in Care Homes Act, for debate on April 15 in the Legislature. The bill was voted down by the Ford government.
“This bill aimed to protect seniors across Ontario from exploitation and fee gouging in retirement homes,” said MPP Pasma. “For too long, companies have been able to raise the cost of care whenever they want, by as much as they want, causing extreme stress for seniors, pushing them out of their homes, and leaving them worried about their savings running out.
“These increases, driven by corporate profits, threaten the dignity and security of seniors’ retirements and hold their homes hostage during an affordability crisis. Ford and his Conservatives had a chance to stand up for seniors and they chose to side with the price gougers instead.”
We're so happy to have you on the team. We'll be in touch soon.
