BEGUM: Ontarians are fed up with Metrolinx’s excuses

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Public Transit Doly Begum (Scarborough Southwest) says it’s too late for more of Metrolinx’s finger-pointing, as the party continues its call for the Ford government to launch a full inquiry and overhaul of the company:

“Ontarians are fed up with Metrolinx’s excuses,” said Begum. “The Finch West LRT experienced 350 delays in just its first three weeks. More delays than actual days of operation, by a wide margin. This isn’t sustainable.

“We don’t need more finger-pointing, we need accountability. The Ford government keeps signing off on P3s despite the mountains of evidence showing that this model doesn’t work. If Metrolinx wants someone to blame for their failures, they should look to their own ballooning roster of overpaid executives and consultants."

“Metrolinx has made it clear that they have no interest in being transparent with Ontarians. They can't even pretend to take accountability without passing the buck. The Ford government must step in with a full inquiry and overhaul of Metrolinx, to prevent more taxpayer dollars from being lit on fire by this opaque and irresponsible body.”
